The Society of Gentleman Scholars is the premiere of these amateur societies, supporting scientific study in a wide variety of fields. They fund projects in cartography, biology, medicine, statistics and physics, but the majority of funding goes to archaeological expeditions. In search of pre-Plague artifacts, ruins and knowledge which have been hidden by millenia of overgrowth, these archaeological expeditions are typically led by one or more immortals and supervised by a Seal. Findings are presented at the bi-annual meetings of the Society on Juneau and in attendance is the who’s who of the Republic and a number of mortals in the cosmopolitan elite. Most of the infrastructure and technological devices in Orion’s Arm is maintained by a corp of mechanics and guilded trademen using schematics provided to them by the Scribes.</p>

But not in a Treasure Planet, steampunk, kind of way. The quarters, deck, operations and aesthetic feel like the ships of the line, frigates and sloops of the Napoleonic Age insofar as they have things that look ‘like’ sails and they use weapons that look ‘like’ cannons, etc... But, they are in space and conform to the rules of space: it is a vacuum, there is no gravity, rapid acceleration kills people, etc... </p>

• Superluminal Transit

The particulate nature of ‘matter’ in the universe constantly forms sub-baryonic cliches temporarily and large scale complete graphs are responsible for the degenerate states of ordinary baryons into singularities such as blackholes. The larger the subset of completeness is, the more it influences the organization of the nodals in its local neighborhood and the less entropic the velocity of the local neighborhood becomes. We experience these effects as gravity. The opposite of it being energy. </p>

While the planet itself has never been visited since the <a class="internal" href="/wiki/Plague">Plague</a>, the orbital stations are centers of commerce, finance and culture. Along the <a class="internal" href="/wiki/Cassiopeian-Corridor">Cassiopeian Corridor</a> in <a class="internal" href="/wiki/The-Midline">The Midline</a>, Terra Nova often act as a transfer point for many vessels traveling to and from Cygnus. </p>
